Key in the seal ring

The sealing ring is the key component of a plunger valve. It is made of a composite material that is high-strength, high-temperature resistant, corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant, non-toxic, and capable of withstanding long-term high pressure and high temperature without losing elasticity while maintaining stable dimensions. The main components include PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), graphite, and highly elastic rubber. The sealing ring is a high-tech product that can still provide excellent sealing performance even after millions of reciprocating movements. Key points for the new plunger valve to be activated

When a new plunger valve is put into operation, the nuts on the valve cover should be tightened once more, one by one. This operation should be carried out within one hour after the valve reaches its operating temperature, and the valve should be in the closed position during this process.

Leakagetreatment(leakageon the sealing surface and the same treatment method for the upper bonnet)

If leakage occurs after the plunger valve has been in service for a long time, close the valve completely, then tighten the nuts on the valve cover diagonally in a crisscross pattern until the leakage stops. Caution: Never tighten the nuts all the way down in a single attempt.

Method of updating the plunger valve

When the nuts on the valve cover have been fully tightened and leakage still cannot be eliminated, it is necessary to service the plunger valve. In this case, "servicing" does not require removing the leaking plunger valve body from the pipeline; instead, simply replace the old sealing rings with new ones. Only a few simple tools, such as wrenches and screwdrivers, are needed. The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Shut off the upstream fluid so that no fluid passes through the valve to be serviced (hereinafter referred to as the valve), and fully open the valve.

  2. Remove the nuts and rotate the handwheel in the closing direction to bring out the valve cover.

  3. When the valve cover bolt holes are disengaged from the studs, rotate the valve cover around the valve stem to an angle so that the bottom face of the valve cover flange faces the heads of the studs.

  4. Rotate the handwheel in the opposite direction, allowing the valve cover to rest on the studs, and continue turning the handwheel until the plunger pulls out the upper sealing ring.

  5. Use a screwdriver to remove the upper sealing ring, the metal spacer, and the lower sealing ring.

  6. Replace the old sealing rings with new ones, inserting them into the valve body in the order of lower sealing ring → metal spacer → upper sealing ring.

  7. After cleaning the inner surface of the sealing rings and the outer surface of the plunger, put the plunger together with the valve cover, stem, etc., into position, and tighten the nuts to press the valve cover face onto the upper sealing ring.

  8. Rotate the handwheel in the closing direction to ensure the plunger, along with the valve cover and stem, is in place, and tighten the nuts, pressing the valve cover against the upper sealing ring.

  9. Follow the guidelines in the "Key Points for New Plunger Start-Up" section.

At this point, the replacement process of the sealing rings is complete, and the plunger valve is restored to like-new condition - achieving a "new valve" with minimal time and cost.
